Historic Restoration


     Steve’s passion for history has led to numerous historical restorations.  Such experience includes the rebuilding of row homes, mansions, and apartment buildings.  Steve worked with the owner and architect on each historical restoration assisting in pre-development, building design, and value engineering to create and meet realistic budgets.  The company’s commitment to excellence has been recognized by both the Historic Review Commission and the City of Pittsburgh who awarded Steve Catranel Construction with the Outstanding Renovation Award and the Preservation Award.

Neighborhood Revitalization

    Steve’s appreciation of history, specifically the rich history of Pittsburgh, its surrounding areas, and their people’s contribution to the nation and its economy also motivates Steve’s undertaking of projects to infuse home ownership, dollars, energy, and pride into our communities.
      Steve, and his father Roland, were intricately involved with the first single-family project under the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Neighborhood Housing Program.  The father and son team worked with the URA and Manchester Citizens Corporation designing, developing, financing and selling the new homes which were built on in-fill sites replacing an ice-cream factory and several burned out and abandoned buildings.
     Steve’s commitment and relationship with the neighborhood of Garfield and the Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation has existed since 1982.  Currently, Steve is working with the Bloomfield-Garfield Group and the Garfield Jubilee Association on a Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency – Home Ownership Choice project that is bringing fifty new affordable single-family detached homes to Garfield.
     Throughout the years, Steve has worked with numerous architects and designers in the planning, value engineering, design-building, and managing of such neighborhood revitalization projects.  In furtherance of these projects Steve has worked with various government agencies and community groups such as the URA; the Bloomfield-Garfield Corp.; the Mon Valley Initiative; PHFA; Pittsburgh Housing Development Corp.; the Lawrenceville Development Corp.; the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development; ACTION Housing, Inc.; The Hill Community Development Corp.; the Oakland Planning and Development Corp.; and the McKeesport Housing Corp.

Custom Homes and Developments


    
Steve Catranel Construction Company, Inc., also builds custom homes on customer’s lots, as well as houses, town-homes, and condominiums in plans it has developed itself.  Working on steep and otherwise difficult sites, a commonality to Western Pennsylvania, are a specialty of this experienced builder.  One such home built on Mount Washington virtually hangs from the hillside.
     The greatest compliment a builder can receive is a referral.  In that regard Steve has built numerous high-end custom homes for former clients, their friends and family.   
     Steve has been the builder/developer for several development projects as well.  For example, the company built and developed the town-home condominiums of Apple Hill and Cherry Blossom Court in Delmont, PA as well as town-homes in Lawrenceville and Brighton Heights in Pittsburgh.  Steve is also the sole builder for the White Oak Court Condominiums in Delmont, PA, a development consisting of  two and three bedroom town-homes along with multifamily condominium-flat buildings with elevators and underground garages, a new product in a growing market.

Commercial Construction

       Steve Catranel Construction Company, Inc. has also been the contractor on several commercial projects ranging from doctor’s offices to total building conversions.  One unique project, the Spinning Plate Artist Lofts, involved the conversion of a 3-story, 55,000 sq. ft. auto dealership and repair garage into artists’ loft apartments.  Steve Catranel Construction Company, Inc. has also remodeled restaurants, renovated a country club and its swimming facilities, remodeled office buildings and done church additions. 
     Steve Catranel Construction Company, Inc. is more than capable of meeting the commercial needs of our clients whether as a general contractor or member of a design-build team.
